work in progress:
I have been working for a few years on a house that sits on the edge of a mountaintop, on the edge of a national forest, and on the edge of sculpture and architecture. It’s highest roof plane sits exactly on the level of the private driveway- presenting a sixteen inch “facade” to the approach. This idea puts the house in the mountain rather than on the mountain and sets up for a self-conscious, and critical relationship between nature and culture that is carried throughout the house with a mixture of highly machined and highly handcrafted details, custom light fixtures, custom furniture, hand-made plumbing fixtures, and a particular sculptural element that took a year in the middle of this building process. I am dying to show it all, but it will only make sense when all of the elements are in place and can combine to more than their sum.
